Being A Christian In The Workplace

One of the greatest challenges facing any Christian is maintaining a Christian attitude in the work place. The real challenge is not working for atheists or agnostics. The real challenge is working for people who are Christians but worship the company more than Jesus. I know these are hard words! The fact remains, however, you cannot separate God and the company. Being a Christian is not some robe you take off when you pull into the company parking lot. You cannot have one set of ethics and morals for the company and another for your private life. If you are a Christian, then be a Christian at all times.

Those of you who know me, know that I do my share of failing to live up to these words. But, I will neither deny their truth nor give up trying to improve my walk with the Lord! Anyway, I have listed some scriptures that I found useful in being a Christian at work. Maybe you will find comfort in them as well.

1. Why we work.

Proverbs 12:11
He who works his land will have abundant food, but he who chases fantasies lacks judgment.

Proverbs 14:23
All hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty.

Proverbs 21:25 The sluggard's craving will be the death of him, because his hands refuse to work.
2. A Godly warning about our attitude.

Ecclesiastes 5:10 Whoever loves money never has money enough; whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with his income. This too is meaningless.
3. The Christian perspective toward working.

1 Timothy 5:18
For the Scripture says, “You must not muzzle an ox to keep it from eating as it treads out the grain.” And in another place, “Those who work deserve their pay!”

Ephesians 6:5
Slaves, obey your earthly masters with deep respect and fear. Serve them sincerely as you would serve Christ.

Ephesians 6:7
Work with enthusiasm, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people.

1 Thessalonians 4:11
Make it your goal to live a quiet life, minding your own business and working with your hands, just as we instructed you before.

Colossians 3: 23
Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people.

2 Thessalonians 3:10
Even while we were with you, we gave you this command: “Those unwilling to work will not get to eat.”
